Flexibility and safety

Systems in the Stage technology require safe and flexible drive technology: curtains, podiums, rotating, lifting or traversing platforms must be moved into the correct position without being noticed by the audience and without posing a danger to performers and stage personnel. The latest trends show that mechanical gearmotor units, which are a compact and inexpensive, are replacing older bulkier hydraulic units in the theatre and stage industry. NORD drives used on chain hoists are designed with high safety factors to ensure the utmost level of safety.

: Example: “VELTINS ARENA”
Technology in the VELTINS ARENA allows for a high level of event flexibility. The south grandstand, which is used by the fans during soccer matches, can be folded back for concerts to make room for the stage. NORD drives arranged in pairs for safety on the grandstand consists of four helical bevel gearboxes type SK 9092.1/52-132S/4 and are controlled by a frequency inverter.

The 750 ton south grandstand of the VELTINS ARENA is moved at a speed of 5 feet per minute.

Low noise and maintenance

NORD provides low-noise, low-maintenance drive solutions that adapt well to the specific applications required by the Stage technology. NORD’s gears are case hardened and fine tuned to ensure smooth and quiet operation. Brakemotors are practically maintenance free due to their defined air gap and friction linings. Another option is a microswitch, which indicates when the brake is released.

Precision and long-lifetimes

Moving and lifting stage props, requires precise movement and positioning. NORD drives guarantee the highest level of precision and longevity due to the UNICASE housing. All bearings and gear train components are integrated into this single piece housing, ensuring leak-free design by eliminating bolt on covers and split castings, while increasing torsional housing strength.
