MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units from NORD in operation

In the agitators of a non-standard biogas plant in the Netherlands, 16 powerful MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS significantly contribute to efficient gas production. With their long service life, high output torques and high powers, they are the optimum drive solution for heavy-duty applications.

MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS can be used in all applications, where high performance and high ratios are required. The torsionally rigid, one-piece UNICASE™ housing ensures the long service life. It can handle high axial and radial forces. MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units achieve output forces up to 282,000 Nm and powers up to 6,000 kW – NORD is the only manufacturer, who build industrial gear units of such dimensions and specifications with a one-piece UNICASE™ housing.

Requested: Powerful mixing for biogas plant

For a biogas plant on the Dutch De Princepeel estate in North Brabant, the operator Smits Group requires an unconventional solution: Contrary to standard practice, the agitators from Jongia had to blend a rectangular base of about 1,200 m² instead of a circular one. System manufacturer Jongia Mixing Technology developed a concept, where two high-performance agitators are operated in each of the eight bunkers.

This is implemented using MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units:

• 2 x 8 ATEX-compliant gear units
• Speed ratio of 123:1
• Each with powers of 37 kW
• Output torque of almost 29,000 Nm

Each agitator with 4.5-metre agitator shafts is driven by a NORD industrial gear unit.

The biogas plant has been in operation for almost one year now; the Smits Group is satisfied. They already plan the construction of another biogas plant with eight fermenters to further increase their biogas volume. Once again with the participation of: Jongia and NORD DRIVESYSTEMS.
