Project requirements

On the Küsten Canal at Friesoythe in Lower Saxony, Europe’s largest biomethane plant is currently being built. Using 40 fermenters, investor REVIS from Münster is planning to process one million tons of dung and liquid manure from the region each year to produce biomethane that will either be fed into the gas network or liquefied into LNG. PRG Präzisions-Rührer GmbH from Warburg supplies agitators.

Application solution

Tailor-made industrial gear units from NORD’s MAXXDRIVE® series that have been designed for maximum load capacity are used for the PRG agitators. NORD provides even higher operational reliability on the drive side with the so-called SAFOMI-IEC adapter (Sealless Adapter for Mixers). The compact adapter is simple in design and has been specially developed for agitator drives. It combines the functions of a standard IEC adapter and an oil expansion chamber in a single component.

The reliability of the drives plays an important role for the new plant. Together with the tanks, they are exposed to all kinds of weather 24 hours a day and must provide smooth operation 365 days a year. Using NORD solutions, it was possible to extend the first oil change to 20,000 operating hours – this corresponds to an operating time of two years.

Project requirements

By 2050, DHL wants to reduce its logistics-related emissions to zero. To achieve this aim, the international transport service provider relies on latest technologies and sustainable solutions – such as in its logistics centre at the Cologne Bonn Airport. The DHL hub provides a warehouse space of 12,000 m2 and a sorting capacity of 10,000 parcels per hour.

Application solution

A total of 800 NORD LogiDrive drive systems and 268 stand-alone motors are used in the hub at the Cologne Bonn Airport in various applications, such as curved conveyors, conveyor belts, mergers/pushers, vertical conveyors, telescopic conveyors and lifters. LogiDrive is an energy-efficient, service-friendly and standardised modular system consisting of motor, gear unit and frequency inverter. A combination of an IE4 permanent magnet synchronous motor, a two-stage bevel gear unit or a helical gear unit and a NORDAC LINK frequency inverter, which is installed close to the motor, were chosen for the logistics centre.

In 2050, DHL wants to be emission-free. The topic of energy efficiency is therefore of highest priority to us. The building in Cologne/Bonn is CO2-neutral and is equipped with latest technologies, such as an ice storage tank for heating and cooling. For the conveyor belt drives, energy efficiency as well as short maintenance intervals have also been the main requirement. NORD was able to deliver this to us and therefore we are very satisfied with the NORD drives.

Project requirements

Jütro GmbH & Co. KG Konserven und Feinkost from Jüterbog in Brandenburg specialises in the development and gentle preparation of high-quality, long-life foods. In 2021, Jütro established a new PET bottling plant in cooperation with NORD DRIVESYSTEMS and other partners, where around 70,000 bottles are produced in a single shift. As it is increasingly difficult to find sufficiently qualified personnel, the highest possible level of automation and throughput was planned from the very start

Application solution

NORDAC PRO SK 550 P frequency inverters and geared motors from NORD are the driving force in the new PET bottling plant. In order to maintain the frequency inverters, which have power outputs ranging between 0.25 to 1.5 kW, remote support is facilitated with an Ethernet connection. Via online maintenance, the suppliers of the various plant components can inspect the entire system, check for faults and evaluate all data from the NORD frequency inverters for their plant components. Another advantage of the frequency inverters used in the project is their vector regulation that keeps the speeds of the drives constant.

Industrial gear units ensure safe bridge crane operation

Project requirements

The Polish manufacturer PROTEA specialises in hoisting equipment that is used in many branches of industry. The company is currently developing a new bridge crane that will be used to transport bales of straw in biogas production. It is based on two independent track cranes.

Application solution

PROTEA relies on NORD’s MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units for its bridge cranes. A robust MAXXDRIVE® XD with a power of 18.5 kW is used for the hoisting gear. These new parallel gear units build on the proven UNICASE housing principle and have been specially optimised for external loads. Due to the elongated arrangement of gear stages, the housing has a large centre distance, enabling a U-shaped drive design. Especially with hoisting gear drives, the cable drum and the motor can thus easily be arranged on the same side of the gear unit. The drives for cranes and trolleys also build on the MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units with powers of 0.55 and 11 kW.

The one-piece UNICASE housing guarantees high durability and low maintenance costs. Double seals ensure smooth operation without leakage. We chose NORD components because the company is a reliable partner with whom we have been working for many years. The products delivered are of highest quality and recognised throughout the world.
