NORD Gear and BMH Technology join forces to develop top solutions for the recycling industry

BMH Technology, a provider of solutions for the circular economy and sustainable development, relies on NORD Gear’s expertise in its geared motors. The cooperation has expanded and covers more and more BMH products, including the new TYRANNOSAURUS 1200A Fine Shredder.

Technical quality and documentation convinced BMH

BMH’s shredders and crushers operate in demanding industrial environments, making reliability and durability critical factors in the choice of equipment. Waste processing plants typically operate around the clock, and any standstills in the production processes may result in significant costs. This also places specific requirements on gear technology.

BMH and NORD began to work together in 2017 when BMH was developing a new BioCrusher crusher. “We put out tenders to all major gear manufacturers. NORD’s technical superiority and thorough documentation convinced us. Our strength calculation engineer compared all the options, and their report was strongly in favour of choosing NORD,” says Janne Rautevaara, Product Group Manager at BMH.

In addition to technical quality, NORD’s ability to understand BHM’s needs comprehensively and offer customized solutions was impressive in the initial stages of cooperation. “The customer gave us specific details of the requirements of the equipment, which allowed us to provide all the necessary technical documentation to support their assessment,” says Jarno Peltonen, Managing Director of the Finnish NORD Group subsidiary, NORD Gear Oy. Through exchanges of information and open communications, a solid foundation for cooperation was created in the long term, and this has only deepened over the years.

Global presence supporting international business

NORD’s global service network has proven to be an important asset for BMH, a company with a strong international presence. “It is important for us that our partners also operate at the local level. NORD’s global network allows a quick response anywhere in the world,” Rautevaara points out. According to Rautevaara, client complaints have also decreased significantly since BMH switched to NORD, testifying to the successful cooperation.

A strong focus on solutions and technical expertise are emphasised in the cooperation. “We follow a clearly defined operating model: When faced with technical challenges, we immediately focus on finding the solution. The combination of a solution-oriented approach and an open dialogue has proven its efficiency,” Kim Gustafsson, Product Manager at NORD Gear Oy explains.

“We appreciate NORD’s culture of open dialogue. As our cooperation deepens, we have learned to rely on their expertise also in the development of novel solutions,” Rautevaara adds.

1200A FineShredder–top of the line crusher for the recycling industry

BMH’s TYRANNOSAURUS 1200A FineShredder launched in May 2024 represents the latest developments in crusher technology. The machine is designed for industrial waste management and can be used to produce recycled fuel of homogenous quality or to optimize the particle size of the material (typically 20–70 mm) for further processing.

The screen surface of the 1200A FineShredder is 50% bigger than in the previous model. This enables easier access for the shredded material to pass through the screen and reduces the heat generated in the process. The wide diameter of the rotor, the high rotational speed and the 312 knives produce over 50,000 cutting events per minute. The patented Zero Gap® technology keeps the cutting gap to the minimum, ensuring an optimal cutting performance. The Impact Protection™ feature, on the other hand, protects the equipment against damage caused by iron and other undesirable materials.

NORD’s gears play a significant role in the operation of the unit. “Demanding waste management processes require high usability since the plants typically operate 24/7. Reliability and durability are of utmost importance,” Rautevaara emphasizes.

Partnership based on trust is bearing fruit

Over the years, NORD and BMH’s cooperation has expanded from the crusher drives to other BMH equipment as well. This has increased the competitive strength of both companies. “BMH has grown into one of our most important clients in Finland. The deeper cooperation has also made it possible to expand product development,” Managing Director Peltonen explains.

Both men see important future opportunities in the fields of the circular economy and sustainable development. “Sustained cooperation and NORD’s technical competence allow us to develop even more efficient solutions for waste processing and the recycling of materials,” Rautevaara says.
