At Friesoythe on the Küsten Canal in Lower Saxony, Europe’s largest biomethane plant is currently being built. Using 40 fermenters, investor REVIS from Münster is planning to process one million tons of dung and liquid manure from the region each year to produce biomethane that will either be fed into the gas network or liquefied into LNG.
PRG Präzisions-Rührer GmbH from Warburg supplies and assembles central agitators for each of the enormous fermenters. Each agitator has a diameter of 24 metres and weight of approximately 10 tons. They are driven by tailor-made industrial gear units from the NORD DRIVESYTEMS' MAXXDRIVE® range. The 2.5 ton gear units have been designed for maximum load capacity, as the complete overhaul is planned at ten-year intervals – with the agitator operating 24/7. NORD provides even higher operational reliability on the drive side with the SAFOMI IEC adapter.
The reliability of the drives plays an important role for the new plant. Together with the tanks, they are exposed to all kinds of weather 24 hours a day and must provide smooth operation 365 days a year. Using NORD solutions, it was possible to extend the first oil change to 20,000 operating hours – this corresponds to an operating time of two years.

With the MAXXDRIVE® industrial gear units in eleven sizes for rated torques from 15,000 to 282,000 Nm and the SAFOMI IEC adapters, NORD offers tailor-made solutions for mixer and agitator applications.
